Mission

Our Commitment

We are committed to providing a heritage‑farm home where horses can live naturally — grazing across rotational pastures, moving freely, and settling into a peaceful daily rhythm. Our mission is to protect the land, support the herd, and offer a safe, grounded space for horses and their people.

Our History

In West Elgin, gently rolling hills and quiet streams create a landscape rich in natural beauty and agricultural heritage. Within this peaceful setting, Blue Farm Stables thrives, where horses flourish and sustainable care shapes the land.More than just a boarding facility, Blue Farm Stables Inc. blends traditional farming with modern, environmentally conscious practices. Founded by local entrepreneurs Curtis and Christine Hay, the 148-acre farm reflects thoughtful planning, environmental care, and deep community commitment. This year marks both the launch of their new venture and the celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary, a reflection of the enduring partnership they bring to their work. The Hays launched Blue Farm Stables to fill a local need for high-quality horse boarding, and what sets their operation apart is a sustainable approach. At the core is a rotational grazing system: larger pastures are divided into smaller paddocks, and horses are moved between them regularly. This method promotes grass regrowth, breaks parasite cycles, and improves soil by evenly spreading manure, reducing overgrazing and chemical fertilizer use while fostering a resilient ecosystem. As a parent of an equestrian rider, I understand the immense demands of caring for a horse. At Blue Farm Stables, this dedication shows in the horses themselves. They’re not just beautiful, they’re relaxed and at ease, a reflection of the peaceful environment the Hays have created. Much of this care is guided by facility operator Jackie Proctor, whose passion and professionalism ensure every horse is happy and healthy.“I love working at Blue Farm Stables. The horses, the people, and the quiet make it special. The grazing system keeps the horses healthy and shiny, even in winter. The Hays family has given us the opportunity to make this a wonderful place for horses.”– Jackie ProctorUnder Jackie’s management, horses have year-round access to shelter, clean water, bedding, and good-quality hay, thriving in the valley-bottom pastures along Brock’s Creek. The land itself plays a vital role in the farm’s success. Generations ago, when Curtis’s family owned the property, the farm grew tobacco, a familiar sight during the heyday of the Ontario tobacco belt. Today, the sandy loam soils provide excellent drainage and a fertile foundation for a thriving horse farm. Combined with the protected freshwater stream, the pastures support the rotational grazing system and ensure the land can sustain a healthy, happy herd for years to come.To meet growing demand, the Hays have strategically expanded. A 30-by-40-foot farm building has been converted into a six-stall horse barn, and a new stream-crossing bridge has been constructed, increasing capacity from four to ten horses. This expansion was supported in part by funding from the Elgincentive Community Improvement Plan Grant and a loan from Elgin Business Resource Centre (EBRC), demonstrating the power of community investment in local business growth.Blue Farm Stables is a private stable focused on providing consistent, year-round environment for western pleasure horses and trail riders. As it enters its second year, it stands as a compelling model for modern rural business: financially sound, environmentally responsible, and deeply connected to its community. The Hays’ farm is a shining example of how passion, partnership, and purpose can create lasting impact, both on the land and the local economy.
